John 3:16 is an anthem now “For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.” Many believes that this means everlasting life in terms of an unending length of days. Every man will live forever because you have a spirit in you and a soul (1 Thess 5:23) that will live forever, though the body will die. Where a man will spend his eternity is what he doesn’t know, but is this what the verse really means?
John 17:3 – ” And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent”. There it is in the scripture, the eternal life is getting to know God, the knowing has to be uttermost. So Jesus died to open a direct access channel between you and God (2 Cor 5:18). God wants you to know him personally.
When you intimately know someone, some things rubs off on you, you pick up things from them as a result of the intimacy. So it is with knowing God, it bring you the reality of this eternal life of God (Zoe) — 2 Peter 1:2 – “May grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in [the full, personal, precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” Need not explain further but not only this, by knowing him, verse 3 says he has given us all things that pertains to life and godliness, verse 4 says we are now partaker of his divine nature (Zoe), the abundant, exceeding, glorious life of God.
Get to know God and watch him transform you.
