Holding onto the Promises

As a believer, we are faced with many challenges, situations that seem impossible. Jesus himself told the apostles, viz a viz us (every believer), that trials will come, which will try their faith. Trials of life are not a matter of ‘if’ but of ‘when’ they come, they are a constant. Every man (believer or non-believer) is been faced with a challenge at a point in time. So, if you are going through a tough time, do not think you are alone but the same is with everyone else, though may not be so visible, some manage theirs so well you think they are perfect or live in a perfect world. The bible in 1 Corinthians 10:13 said whatever you are going through is not peculiar to you but common to all men, some have been through it, some are in it alongside you and some are yet to go through it.

This is now not a time to complain and to be cursing or be angry with God. Some are in the habit of stopping anything that has to do with God; they say if he really is God and loves them as much as he claims then they would not be in the situation they are in. It is not the time to wallow in self-pity and be pessimistic, it is a time to hold on to the promises of God, and it is a time to cling to the words of God to you because that is all you have and all you will ever need. Jesus, after he had said to the disciples that trials of their faith will come, he concluded by telling them to be of good cheers as he has overcome the world (John 16:33). The concluding part of 1 Corinthians 10:13 says God is faithful, he will not allow you go through a situation that is beyond what you can bear, even in the current one he will show you a way out because there is always one. You are in that situation because God knows you are tougher than it.

If you are asking why you have to go through that particular problem or trouble, James 1:2-4 says “Dear brothers and sister, when troubles comes your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing”. Paul says in 2 Corinthian 4:17 “For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!”

Facts about life’s challenges are they will come to you whether you like them or not, whether you are a believer or not, whether you are prepared for them or not. They are but for a while, they will not last forever, only seem so. They work for you in that they make you grow in faith and endurance and they produce for you glory that last forever. There is always a way out of every trouble, which will not be visible to us if we have a wrong approach in dealing with the trouble.

Let it be clear to you that though God allowed you to go through this trial or trouble, his will for you is still for you to prosper in all situations and he expects you to overcome the situation and become stronger, so you can fulfill his purpose for your life without lacking anything or deficient of any quality. The devil is just a stupid devil, if only he knows the character he builds in you when he thinks he is afflicting you, he would leave you to live a trouble-free life, and by the way he put Jesus through so much, killed him, only for him (devil) to lose everything he had worked for. So it is not the time to be down and out but a time to be up, above and about, clinging to the promises of God, who does not lies nor change (Numbers 23:19, 1 Samuel 15:29, Titus 1:2). Think every problem you have been through, how you got through them because Christ has assured us of victory always (1 Jn 5:4, 1 Cor 15:57, 2 Cor 2:14)
