I have a friend, when I first met her she was a very broken person, depressed most of the time and indulge in excessive drinking just to stop herself from thinking, she also said it was the only way to put her hurts aside and have a good time. She told me she does not think God likes her, or just maybe she insignificant to him since there are lots of people in this world because things seems to work for a lot of people but not her, She felt so lonely even though she had lots of friends around her.
One day we got talking and I shared with her what I’m about to share with you; the love of God. God does not just like you, He loves you so much, you matter to him so much that he gave his life for you. It does not matter what your past might have been like, what you had done, he loves you so much that he erased your past completely from his memory, giving you a clean slate (Hebrews 8:12). You matter to him so much that he takes special interest in your affairs; he’s the best friend when you need one. His love for you is unconditional and he simply can’t stop loving you. He hurts when you’re hurt and he’s happy to see you happy, so he’s not taking delight in seeing you suffer but the devil does.
John 10:10 says “the thief (devil) comes only to steal and kill and destroy…” whatever that steals your joy, happiness, comfort, peace is from the thief (devil), whatever that kills and destroy your body or health like sickness and diseases, like depression is from the devil, not from God. Some people believe when they’re sick that it is God punishing them for something they had done, God in the new covenant through Christ is not like that. Remember Christ died for you while you were still in sin (Romans 5:8). The love of God is regardless of your past sins or disobedience, God would not punish you with something that will kill you after he had gone through so much to save you from death.
But Jesus came to give us life, abundant life (John 10:10), a life of peace, joy, happiness, comfort, a life of good health without sickness and diseases, free of oppressions and depressions.
Don’t allow the devil cheat you out of this abundant life by keeping you in sickness, in depression, in poverty etc. Every time he fills your thoughts with those negative things, always remember the love of God for you, his thoughts for you (Jeremiah 29:11), knowing that every good and perfect gifts is from above, from God (James 1:17). Kick the devil out and enjoy the abundant life Jesus has provided you through his amazing love.
