One too many times I have seen people that know the scriptures inside out but with no effect. These people are so filled with the word but I realized it is mostly head knowledge. It is one thing for you to know the word; it is another thing entirely to know how to make it work for you. It amazes me when I see people indulge in destructive habits or indulge in the flesh and when I talk with them they quote scriptures, it makes me wonder; how could this be? For someone to know the word this much, yet there is no difference between them and someone who does not know anything.
I have come to realize something about the word of God which I am going to share with you. James 1:23-24 “For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man studying his natural face in a mirror. For he studied himself and went his way, and immediately he forgot what he was like.” This made us realize something that it is not about how much of the word you know, how many scriptures you can quote, how often you go to church and listen to the word but it is how much of the word you put into action. Some will even say ‘you can listen to what I say but do not do what I do’; I think that is the highest level of hypocrisy. As a believer, do the word of God, act out what you know, do not just listen and do otherwise. The purpose of your hearing is to act it out because that is where the blessing it (v25). Joshua 1:8 after telling us to read and meditate on the word day and night capped it all up by saying “that you may observe to do everything it says” for only then “you will be prosperous and successful in all you do”.
It is in doing the word that we get the benefit of the word, not by just listening. Some will say “I just want to know more of the word”, this is very good but act out the little you think know now and get the benefits while getting more of the word. Wisdom is the application of knowledge gained, if you do not apply the knowledge you have and people see, you are just as foolish as the next person but let your lives be an example to everyone. God will never go back on his words, when you act out the word, in faith, the promises are fulfilled. Remember faith without corresponding action is dead (James2:26), and this faith only comes by the word of God that you hear, either by reading or listening (Romans 10:17) but without a corresponding action on it, is dead.
It is high time we stopped hypocrisy in Christianity and operate in the supernatural power of God by acting out his word in every way and in all situation or circumstance, and reaping the benefits that follows so other may see.
